What is dry needling?
common conditions treated with dry needling
what to expect
Dry needling is a modality that can be used to treat pain (both acute and chronic) and movement limitations. A thin needle is inserted into the target area. This can help the area relax, improve blood flow and lymphatic flow to the targeted tissue, improve range of motion and reduce pain.
Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of conditions. Some of the more common conditions include:
joint and muscle pain/stiffness
neck pain
TMJ
back pain/stiffness
sciatica
carpal tunnel syndrome
plantar fasciitis
nerve pain
numbness/tingling
tendinopathy (such as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow)
Prior to receiving dry needling your physical therapist will first perform an evaluation to see if you are appropriate and which areas need to be treated. You will be provided exercises during your visit to enhance the effects of the dry needling session.
After your session you may experience:
bruising at treatment site
soreness
fatigue
