how the lymphatic system impacts health
Our lymphatic system is our body’s recycling system and is highly pertinent to our immune health. It is responsible for recycling materials, sends signals to our lymph nodes to activate an immune response if viruses or bacteria are identified and eliminates toxins, wastes and fluids.
The lymphatic system is put to the test every day; whether it’s battling illness, flushing out toxins or keeping up with environmental exposures. Even the products we put on our bodies (such as lotions and perfumes) and the items we eat and drink can impact our lymphatic system. The lymphatic system can become sluggish over time and it’s efficacy may reduce.
how to boost lymphatic system health
An easy way to boost your lymphatic system’s efficacy and efficiency is through manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). Our certified lymphedema therapist can provide a specific massage technique, which includes varying degrees of pressure at different parts of the body to stimulate lymphatic drainage. MLD is non-invasive and is entirely a hands-on technique.
This is a treatment option for those who are seeking improved circulation, reduced swelling, detoxification support and enhanced immune system function. Lymphatic drainage is great for enhancing parasympathetic nervous system function which is pertinent for chronic illness and an overall sense of relaxation. Lymphatic drainage is also a natural analgesic (pain reliever).
what to expect during and after a session
Some people may experience a sense of fluid movement within their bodies during the session or the need to urinate during a session. This is a great sign that the massage is working!
After your session you may continue to experience a temporary increase in urination. Some individuals may feel relaxed or have increased energy. Others may experience an increase in fatigue, headache or nausea which is a sign your body is processing and removing toxins.
To enhance your effects, drink extra water before and after your treatment. Don’t do any strenuous activities following your treatment for the remainder of the day.
